This project consists of recreational improvements, revisions of Forest Service access road intersections with the state highway for safety, construction of new trailhead parking and turn-a-round areas. Project location starts along State Highway 542 at the Glacier Public Service Center MP 34.1 and ends above the Mt. Baker Ski Area at MP 56.0. Work includes but is not limited to construction staking, culvert installations, obliteration of roadways, placement of crushed aggregate, barrier rocks, riprap, asphalt paving, concrete wheel stops, trail construction & reconstruction, installation of a new restroom, picnic tables, information kiosks, highway signs, regulatory signs, painted pavement markings, seeding & mulching and miscellaneous site work. The area above Mt. Baker Ski Area is only accessible (snow free) from July 1st to October 15th yearly for work. Estimated start work date for the project is on or about March 1, 2004. Contract work time is approx 244 days. All work to be completed before October 31, 2004. Issue date of the solicitation is January 14, 2003. Closing date is February 18, 2004 by 4:30pm. The NAICS code for this project is 237310. The Government estimate for this project is between $250,000 and $500,000. Bonding will be required for this project.
