The work of this contract is located from Somes Sound to Seal Harbor on Mount Desert Island, Maine. Work consists of clearing a 50-foot wide boundary fuel break on approximately 5 1/2 miles of surveyed property lines. All lines will be flagged, signed and delineated in advance of work to be performed with access through parklands only. Travel to worksites by motorized vehicles is on established roads. All off road travel will be by foot; no motorized ATV vehicles are allowed. The boundary areas range from open, flat, rock face and slopes to some steep and uneven terrain while encountering all types of forest/fuel types as bog, grass, dead and down tree areas to dense soft and hardwood stands. The cutting, thinning and pruning will be by manual means using chainsaws, brush cutters, polesaws/pruners and hand tools. Disposal of debris can be chipped if and when possible or otherwise dispersed inside of park boundaries. Crew size is limited to no more than 5 people. Work must be completed by May 31, 2007.
