The intent of this contract is for the replacement of approximately 2,760 square feet of outdoor building deck, untreated 2 x 4’s on-edge, approximately 35 years old. The project calls for replacement in-kind with the added durability of treated lumber. All 36 deck support columns, averaging 5 feet in length are designated to be replaced also. Joist beams carrying the deck spans every 10 feet will stay, as they are pressure treated and run to the interior of the building over foundation walls. The existing front entry decking, 890 square feet, will be removed and replaced with a concrete slab and the completion of a perimeter footing wall that serves as the decking and adjacent concrete walkway abutments. In addition to this reconstruction will be a new 5 foot wide by 85 foot long accessible walkway from the upper level of building deck to the lower level at a gentle 3.5 percent. Approximately 400 feet of stainless steel railing is planned in place of former solid framed half-wall construction surrounding this view deck. An accessible public drinking fountain is also planned near the building entry and a sidewalk curb ramp to facilitate emergency and service vehicles to the building with two lockable/removable bollards cast into the new entry slab for security. This project is located on the Waldport Ranger District, Siuslaw National Forest, Lincoln County, Oregon. The successful Contractor shall furnish all labor, equipment, supervision, transportation, supplies (except those designated as Government-furnished), and incidentals to accomplish all work necessary. The Government estimate is less than $100,000. Technical and price proposals are due by close of business on November 18, 2004. The successful Contractor shall also be required to submit performance and payment bonds (100% each) prior to start of work. Contract time is 90 calendar days.
