To manage the vegetation (Hardwoods, Ashe Juniper, Mesquite, brush/slash and dead piles and understory as necessary) of selected areas in training area 42 to improve Military Training exercises while also improving vegetative cover and habitat that will slow erosion and sedimentation on Fort Hood. Woody species removal will be accomplished in four techniques: Corridor Clearing, Maneuver Lanes Clearing, Modified Work Area Clearing, and Black Capped Vireo Area (BCVI) Thinning. All cut woody species and brush/slash dead piles must be either mulched, or removed from the Ft. Hood Post, with the exception of Red Oak; it must be mulched on site and not removed from post. Contractor may post and stay Ashe Juniper trees on site and may cut fire wood from Mesquite or Hardwoods (except Red Oak) on site. All limbs that are cut or any incidental wounds to trees will be treated with approved sealing methods. If any equipment is used on a diseased tree it must be sterilized by approved methods before it is used on a non-diseased tree. Period of performance for this project will be from July 12, 2010 through December 17, 2010. NOTE: Pre-bid Conference will be held at the Fort Hood project Office, 105 Memorial Drive, Gatesville TX 76528 on 16 June 2010 from 0900 - 1400. SEE STATEMENT OF WORK for additional details.
