The Arthur Carhart National Wilderness Training Center conducts a week-long wilderness leadership training course each year for federal wilderness managers and decision makers from 4 federal agencies (Forest Service, Park Service, BLM and Fish & Wildlife Service) in addition to other federal agency partners. This national course is held in western Montana each year during the third full week of June.  Each student attending the course is assigned to a group of approximately 7-13 people and expected to participate with that group in one of several different 3-day/2-night field trips.  The required field trip may be one of the following types of trips: horse packing, backpacking, drop camp, llama packing or river/lake float.  The field trips are all held concurrently and always conducted on Thursday through Saturday of the training session.  Each of these trips is guided by a contractor-provided outfitter-guide.  The Contractor shall be a current Forest. Service Outfitter and Guide permit holder (or equivalent from the following federal agencies: BLM, Park Service, Fish & Wildlife Service).  Since these trips are administrative, the Contractor is NOT required to hold an outfitter-guide Special Use Permit (or equivalent) for the specific area of the provided trip.  Also, the days required by the activities under this contract will not be counted against your existing permit.
