Aerial Seeding Project: The project is for aerial seeding of post-fire high and moderate severity burn areas on the Whitewater-Baldy Fire burn area. The contractor will supply the seed to the following mix requirements, based on two different types of treatments.
The 10,200 acres receiving 20 seeds per sq. ft. mixture is a treatment area that will not receive mulch. This mix includes a higher concentration of barley in the absence of straw mulch.
10,200 acres:
Name: Seed/sq. ft.
Muttongrass: (Poa fedleriana) 1.0 seeds
Arizona fescue: (Festuca arizonica) 0.25 seeds
Prairie junegrass: (Koeleria macrantha) 1.0 seeds
Mountain brome: (Bromus marginatus) 2.75 seeds
Annual Barley: (Hordeum vulgare) 15.0 seeds
The 16,000 acres receiving 15 seeds per sq. ft. mixture is a treatment area that will receive a straw mulch cover with the same mixture listed above with 15 seeds per sq. ft.
A total of 26,200 acres will be seeded, depending on funds available and bids received. The contractor will be expected to procure the recommended seed amount sufficient to complete the contract. No designated staging areas have been established. The contractor may establish any staging area based upon prior approval from the federal agency and/or as agreed to by private landowners. The contractor will conduct the operation according to FAR/VFR rules. The project location is north of Silver City, New Mexico.
