The Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), intends to negotiate a firm fixed price purchase order, on a sole source basis, with Coherent, Inc. of Santa Clara, CA for the purchase of a refurbished Verdi V2 System, to include Water Riser and Chiller (RoHS compliant) and CPSS SC Piezo-dielectric transducer per the attached Statement of Work, under other than full and open competition by the authority of FAR subpart 6.302-1: Only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements.
The Sole Source determination is based on the need for a 2W, 532 nm, continuous wave (cw), ultra-low noise laser that can be frequency tuned and locked to resonance with a narrow (<1 MHz), saturated absorption feature in molecular iodine. The procurement of this Verdi V2 System will help the division actively generate, tune, and precisely stabilize single-frequency, narrowband radiation at 194 nm in order to successfully operate the single ion, Hg+ optical clock. Specifications for the Verdi V2 System are per the attached SOW technical specifications.
Delivery is FOB Origin, Boulder, CO.
The NAICS code for the proposed acquisition is 334515, with a Small Business size standard of 500 employees.
No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations.
The Government will consider responses received by 11:59 p.m. (EST) on January 17, 2013.
