This is for ongoing service for 2 Varian Linear accelerators acquired for a cost of $ 5.5 million, used in the department of Radiation Oncology. All parts, service and support are critical for the maintenance and upgrade of this equipment. Varian service has access to factory engineering resources. Specialized training is required to perform any service on this equipment. Only Varian service can access proprietary software used for remote service and monitoring. The University has determined that this purchase is only economically available from this source because the compatibility of equipment, accessories, replacement parts, or service is a paramount consideration.
