The National Institute of Digestive, Diabetes & Kidney Diseases's (NIDDK Synthetic Bioactive Molecules Section of the Laboratory of Bioorganic Chemistry is involved in the discovery and development of new molecules with medicinal value or for applications to diagnostics. Some of these molecules have the potential to become therapeutics or to be used as important components in diagnostic applications that signal the presence of disease. Applications in either area are of great benefit to human health and thus to NIDDK's mission. Research conducted in the Laboratory of Bioorganic Chemistry involves synthesis of biologically active molecules called peptide nucleic acids (PNAs). This purchase requisition is urgently needed to obtain instrumentation required to prepare sample PNAs for subsequent studies. Each PNA must be able to recognize and bind its DNA or RNA target nucleic acid sequence, and without this instrumentation the NIDDK cannot continue its research on the properties of PNA.
The specs are as follows:
V-10 Touch System Single sample evaporator includes:
-High rotational speed vial drive motor provides a film of sample and eliminates bumping
-Touch screen user interface with pre-programmed evaporation methods optimized for volatile, aqueous and high boiling point solvents. Key parameters are may be user modified
-IR temperature sensor to monitor and control sample temperature during evaporation preventing sample overheating
-Automatic end-of-run detection; stops system and unloads vial -2 mBar, 3-stage, oil free, chemically resistant vacuum pump
-Automated valve for external high vacuum pump
-Adapters to run approved 20 ml & 4 ml vials
V-10 Touch Solvent Manager Upgrade Includes pump, mounting hardware, fittings, software,
and testing to add solvent management capabilities to V-10 touch systems. This retro-fit upgrade includes:
-Sample pump for feed-in capability of larger sample volumes (up to 500 ml)
-Tubing and adapters
-Mounting hardware
-Software
V-10 Automation Upgrade Facilitates the automated introduction of vials to the V-10 Touch. Capacity is 16 samples. Carousel Vial holders, (part numbers 411181, 411182, or 411183) must be ordered separately. Upgrade includes:
-Carousel unit
-Control software
-Mounting hardware
-Connections
First Year Maintenance Package Priority - V-10 Evaporator Installation and operational verification and first year warranty package for Biotage® V-10 Touch rapid solvent evaporator system. Package includes installation, priority response time and 1 preventive maintenance visit during final three months of warranty period.
The Biotage V-10 is needed to interface with the existing HPLC and mass spectrometers in the lab. The V-10 must be able to concentrate multiple samples sequentially and with automation, and also use 3-way drying with a combination of heat, vacuum, and vial rotation to speed solvent removal. In the light of the NIDDK's ongoing studies, consistency and continuity of research goals requires the utilization of BIOTAGE, INC for the requisite products.
