First published Tuesday, February 16, 2016 The University awarded a contract for upgrade with Avance III HD NMR console to Bruker BioSpin Corporation, Billerica, MA, for an estimated $252,000. Purchase Bruker's AVANCE III HD NMR console with VT (variable temperature) and broadband SmartProbe for characterization of small molecules research. The current Bruker BioSpin nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) Spectrometer System has been utilized since 2003 but it is becoming outdated and no longer supported by the vendor. Currently it is four generations behind with hardware and software functionality. UIC researchers have identified upgrade potential components that could render this NMR Spectrometer to a state-of-the art research status. Advances in technology allow for observation of additional nuclei and new experiments previously not possible. Bruker's Avance III HD NMR console with VT and broadband SmartProbe is the only viable choice to achieve a state of the art Spectrometer system. Only Bruker BioSpin manufacturered replacement components can be installed as they interface and enhance the existing Bruker BioSpin processes. There are no third party vendors manufacturing these components in the US or anywhere else in the world. Workstation computer operates software that is fully integrated with the hardware and designed to utilize all of its capabilities. A new 400Mhz system including magnet would cost approximately $ 406k. The University has determined that this purchase is only economically available from this source because the compatibility of equipment, accessories, replacement parts, or service is a paramount consideration.
