The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to negotiate and award a purchase order using simplified acquisition procedures on a sole source basis under the authority of FAR 6.302-1, with Bruker AXS in Madison, WI for an upgrade to an existing Bruker D8 X-Ray Diffractometer for the integration of new hardware and software to enable microscopic and nano-scale measurement capabilities..

Bruker is the only source that can provide the hardware and software upgrade to the existing system as they are the sole manufacturer of this diffractometer. Additionally, Bruker holds the proprietary rights to the design, parts and software for this system.

The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 334516, and the size standard is 500 employees or less.

A sources sought notice was posted on June 15, 2012 and closed on June 29, 2012. No responses were received in response to the sources sought notice.
