The USDA, Agricultural Research Service (ARS), ERRC, Sustainable Biofuels and Coproducts (SBCP) Research Unit in Wyndmoor, PA, intends to award a firm fixed price purchase order to Applikon Biotechnology Inc., in Foster City, CA 94404, on a sole source basis, to furnish and deliver (FOB) Destination a 2-Liter Glass Fermentors with accessories to the Eastern Regional Research Center. This will be a firm fixed price contract. Anticipated date of award is September 5, 2016.

Encoder (Z510000010 - 3 pcs), Encoder Cable P100-P1000 (Z510121020 - 3 pcs), Motor Cable P100/P140 Encoder (Z510121011 - 3 pcs), Sensor Holder ID12 (Z813000021 - 3 pcs), Baffled Condenser (Z813080002 - 3 pcs), Air Inlet Pipe Assembly (Z81318L002 - 3 pcs), Heat Exchanger 2-5L (Z813170003 - 3 pcs), Sample Pipe 3-5L Fermentor Fixed( Z81319MB03 - 3 pcs), Thermometerpocket (Z81323TP03 - 3 pcs), Baffle Assembly (Z81326KS03- 9 pcs), Sensor PH+L=235MM - 3 pcs), Sensor DO L=235 - 3 pcs).

USDA is in possession of a fermentation system consisting of three (3) 7.5 liter fermentors and accompanying control modules from Applikon Biotechnology in 2014. Now we want to add three (3) smaller fermentor vessels (2-liter in capacity). USDA will be able to use the new fermentor vessels with the existing system. The fermentors will allow us to perform research on bioconversion of sorghum feedstocks to fuels such ethanol and butanol, and industrial chemicals such as xylitol, glutamic acid, succinic acid, and others.

A determination by the Government not to compete this requirement is solely at the discretion of the Government in accordance with FAR 13.106-1(b). This is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items prepared in accordance with the format in FAR subpart 12.6 (current as of FAC 2005-89).
