The U.S. Maritime Administration intends to acquire on a sole source basis the services of American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) to conduct inspections and surveys to maintain the Training Ship Golden Bear in class and the status of certified.  The vendor, ABS, is the only known representative able to secure certificates necessary for insurance and operation of the vessel.  They have the insurance's endorsement and unique knowledge to approve the ship's condition.  However, interested parties may identify their interest and capability to satisfy the Government's requirements.  This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotes. However, all quotes received before the response date of this synopsis will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete with this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
