Clemson needs to purchase as a sole source a GPC EcoSEC Elite unit that is compatible and have required sensitivity with the Department of Energy equipment used on other projects. Because other vendors (Waters, Agilent, Shimadzu) do not offer these features, they cannot be used on the project funded by the DOE entitled Self-healable Copolymer Composites for Extended Service H2 Dispensing Hoses. (PI- Dr. Urban). Because GPCs have varying columns with different solvents and sensitivities, this particular project requires precision (≤ 0.2% CV in triplicate), unmatched sensitivity (≤ 0.5 μg per injection), and quickest column equilibration (30 minutes from OFF), which is not available from any other competitor. The EcoSEC Elite, sold solely by Tosoh, is the only GPC unit that meet these requirements, and allow Clemson to participate in this research funded by DOE. For these reasons, this is a sole source procurement. The total value of the procurement is $52,303.00.
