The Contractor shall furnish all labor and materials to harvest selected pine trees from 8 areas totaling 48.49 acres. Six areas totaling 7.48 acres will be selectively thinned. Two areas totaling 41.01 acres will be clearcut. Volumes are estimated to be approximately 3,200 tons of pine pulpwood and 300 tons of fuelwood chips. The timber consists of well-stocked loblolly pine plantations and is considered to be of fair quality for the Sumter Area. The Contractor shall have completed harvesting operations and removed all designated timber from the sites by 1 May 2009. The areas to be harvested are located at Shaw Air Force Base, Sumter County, South Carolina. The Base is located on the north side of U.S. Highway 378 between Sumter, SC, and Columbia, SC. The specific locations of the sale areas are shown on the Timber Sale Location Map which is incorporated as part of this contract. Within five of the areas to be thinned, all trees are to be harvested except those marked with multiple spots of blue paint at eye level. Within the other thinning area, only trees marked with orange paint are to be removed. Within the two clearcut areas, all trees are to be cut. Bidders are expected to satisfy themselves as to the conditions that may affect the cost of performance under this contract. It is considered impractical to determine by other means the exact nature of work, site conditions under which work is to be performed, product break down and total quantity to be harvested. The submission of a bid will be considered as certification that the site has been inspected and the nature of work and the effects of existing and/or adjacent work have been determined. Inspection of the sites will be conducted Thursday, 12 March 2009 at 10:00 A.M. by arrangements with Lt John Dix the contracting representative, telephone 803-895-5264, FAX 803-895-5339, email: [email protected] or alternate Mr. Ronald Alexander at 803-895-5392, email [email protected].
