DESCRIPTION OF SERVICE REQUIRED
The Center Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant is an independent contractor, and not an employee, representative, or agent of the Blue Ridge Job Corps Center.
The Center NP/PA agrees to provide the Blue Ridge Job Corps Center with the services specified below. Such services will be provided not to exceed two (2) hours per week, during a schedule determined by the Center NP/PA and the Manager of Health Services to meet the health requirements of the center enrollees.
The Blue Ridge Job Corps Center and the Center NP/PA hereby agree that the services to be provided to students include, but not limited to, those services enumerated in the Job Corps Policy and Requirements Handbook (PRH) and approved applicable Technical Assistance Guides (TAG), as amended.
These services shall include:
• Perform the mandatory definitive medical examinations of Center enrollees.
• Recommend, to the Health and Wellness Staff, observation status and treatment and follow-up instructions/education for identified trainees.
• The Center Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant shall make recommendations, when necessary, for appropriate off-center referrals, i.e.; Medical Specialists, Emergency Room evaluation and treatment, and hospitalizations.
• The Center Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant and Health Service Administrator shall review the quality and appropriateness of medical care provided by the Wellness staff. This is accomplished through direct, individual instruction, educational updates, office meetings, quality assurance/performance improvement activities.
• The Center Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant will provide "on-call" coverage to the Health and Wellness professional staff, as it is required.
• The Center Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant provides individualized health education to trainees for the promotion of wellness and its relationship to employability.
• Pregnant trainees shall be evaluated and referred to an Obstetrics Specialist (whether pregnant on arrival to Center or after arrival). The Center Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant may deliver primary care to the pregnant trainee, after consulting with the Obstetrics Specialist.
The Center Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant agrees to adhere to the policies, procedures, and guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration, Job Corps, and any other applicable Federal, State, and local laws. It is understood that the services provided by the Center Physician are subject to monitoring and review by the Job Corps.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Active and unrestricted certifications, licensing or accreditation as required by the State of Virginia and to meet requirements by the Virginia Practice Act
Current DEA registration in State of Virginia
Experience in providing medical care for adolescents and young adults
Provision of medical services to youth who are economically and socially disadvantaged
Previous practice in residential settings such as schools, colleges, institutions, military and correctional institutions
Willingness and ability to carry out duties and responsibilities equal to those specified in the bid packet
