First published Friday, August 14, 2015 The University awarded a contract for superconducting machines to Magsoft Corporation, Clifton Park, NY, for an estimated $60,000. Magsoft will support the EM design of the motor by extending their electromagnetic tools to analyze and optimize active and passive shielding of the SC motor. They will perform a three dimensional analysis of the machine and shielding coils. They will also use their optimization tools to reduce the amount of superconductor and control the exterior fields. The University has determined that this purchase is only economically available from this source because the items are required for research and no other source is able to meet the researcher's documented needs.
