PROJECT SCOPE: This Contract provides for the improvement of the existing fish passage barrier (Site ID 990014) to Squalicum Creek on SR 542 at milepost 3.37 to 3.52 in Whatcom County, approximately 0.6 miles east of Bellingham. The project will remove an existing 205 foot long, 6x6 foot concrete box culvert, wingwalls, headwalls, slabs, and weir system, and install a new bridge with a minimum hydraulic opening width of 38 feet, and new streambed alignment enhancing the current stream channel, which was shifted east when the culvert installation replaced a historic bridge and other work.
