The Food and Drug Administration, Kansas City Laboratory (11510 W 80th St, Lenexa, KS 66214) performs Multi-Mycotoxin analyses using LC-MS/MS Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometry as part of the agency’s Total Diet Study and mycotoxin regulatory programs in both domestic and import human and animal feed. The procedure used for this analysis requires a Geno/Grinder for adequate sample extraction (ie., shaking and homogenization of food products). The laboratory is transitioning from the use of individual analyte methods for all samples to the use of the single, multi-mycotoxin analysis. The lab currently has one seven year old Geno/Grinder which is used for the procedures. A second unit is needed to provide equipment backup and redundancy in this critical work area.
