The overall scope if this project will consist of modifications (make-ready) needed to the existing Hydraulics Laboratory at Scripps Institute of Oceanography (SIO) and surrounding site to accommodate future installation of the new Scripps Ocean-Atmosphere Research Simulator (SOARS) instrument and corresponding equipment. The instrument is a one-of-a-kind wave-wind tunnel that is approximately 18'Hx12'Wx125'L that is capable of controlling water and wind conditions to simulate a wide variety of conditions. The make-ready scope includes but is not limited to: 1. Demolition of concrete and asphalt to prepare for the installation of the SOARS instrument and outdoor mechanical pad 2. Excavation of soils for the SOARS "channel" as well as UG utilities from mechanical yard to building 3. Micropiles for the support of the SOARS instrument 4. Asphalt patch back at utility trenches and abutting 5. CMU walls around the new mechanical yard 6. Concrete SOG and housekeeping pads at mechanical yard, as well as various locations within the building (patch back of SOG and infill of existing channel) 7. Fencing around outdoor mechanical yard 8. Rough carpentry structural support of existing roof to accommodate new penetrations for Solatube skylights 9. Installation of Solatube skylights 10. Roofing patch (new crickets and copper sheeting) at new skylights and plumbing vents 11. Fire Sprinkler modifications as needed due to SOARS instrument and obstructions it presents to existing coverage 12. Plumbing - salt water, fresh water, drain, vent, etc 13. New electrical gear to provide power to SOARS instrument
