NMFS' Southwest Fisheries Science Center has a need to assess the global status of sea turtles, apply genetic analysis to define units to conserve and address management needs. This project seeks to collect genetic data and compile current and new data to publish a comprehensive population structure analysis for loggerheads and green turtles.
In addition, NMFS-SWFSC and Protected Resources Division are committed to educating constituents within the San Diego region about the efforts of NMFS and importance of protected resources conservation. A key element of this outreach effort is education of local youths within San Diego County. To this end, NOAA has a need to continue environmental education efforts to provide education to local students about the biology and conservation of endangered green sea turtles and California grey whales.
