PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The seawater distribution system at UCSD’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography (Scripps) campus provides filtered seawater to the Birch Aquarium at Scripps (BAS), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Southwest Fisheries facility, and several other Scripps laboratory buildings throughout the Scripps campus. The seawater distribution system has an extensive history dating back to the early 1900s and has been expanded and improved over the past century. One of the key components that has developed over the years is the way Sea Water is stored throughout the Seawater system. Currently there are 9 Seawater Storage tanks, 7 of which that are comprised of cast-in-place reinforced concrete. All 7 tanks are located at 3 different sites on the Scripps campus. All 7 tanks have started to develop compromised cracks, spalling, and some leakage in the cast in place concrete. The primary objectives of the “Seawater Storage Tank Repair Project” is to make necessary repairs to all 7 tanks and apply liners and coatings to specific tanks to prevent further damage and extend the useful life of the tanks. Due to the age of the tanks, some updated safety measure will be implemented. The project scope may include: • Interior and Exterior crack and spalling repairs. • Exterior concrete protective coating. • Interior liner application that has been approve by the Sea Life Team. • Stainless steel ladder access installation. • Stainless steel railing installation. The University seeks Contractors with demonstrated experience in repairs of cracking and spalling exterior concrete structures, working within an active campus setting; repair and water proofing of interior lining of fisheries or municipal water holding tank, work requiring a confined space entry, high level Facility System shut downs requiring extensive coordination with end user; work within an active campus community with limited staging area and minimal project footprint. Estimated construction duration is 180 Days. The Contractor shall have demonstrated an average annual business revenue of at least $3,000,000 over the last five (5) consecutive years. The Contractor must have demonstrated experience on their best three (3) comparable projects with the Contractor providing services as General Engineering Contractor within the last ten (10) years. Projects should have possessed the following construction challenges: Planning, scheduling, and repairs of existing concrete structures.
