ADVERTISEMENT FOR PREQUALIFICATION OF CONTRACTOR (NO SUBCONTRACTOR BIDS REQUESTED AT THIS TIME) Subject to conditions prescribed by the undersigned, Prequalification Questionnaires from Contractors licensed as follows: C-10 Electrical Contractor are invited for the electrical infrastructure projects: SCRIPPS INSTITUTE OF OCEANOGRAPHY NORTH POWER CONVERSION UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SAN DIEGO Project No. 5345 / 966121 Estimated Construction Cost: $965,000 And SCRIPPS INSTITUTE OF OCEANOGRAPHY AUTOMATIC LOAD SHED SYSTEM UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SAN DIEGO Project No. 5323 / 966118 Estimated Construction Cost: $1,100,000 PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Scripps Institute of Oceanography North Power Conversion: The project includes approximately 500 ft of 15kV cables spliced into two (2) 12kV circuits at an existing Electrical Manhole on La Jolla Shores (EMH E-10-12) and terminated into a new SF6 Switch to provide campus power to the North area of SIO, which has been supported by SDG&E. The project’s scope also includes the installation of an SF6 Switch and medium voltage transformer. Estimated construction duration is 180 days. Scripps Institute of Oceanography Automatic Load Shed System: The project includes installation of underground electrical duct bank between existing manholes on Downwind Way and relocation of feeders for Coastal Apartments and Dance Studio. This work will be done within existing manholes. The project’s scope also includes the installation of approximately 10 ft of raceway between existing electrical and telecom manholes at SIO library. Estimated construction duration is 120 days. The University seeks Contractors with demonstrated experience in infrastructures such as: • Utility infrastructure for a large campus type institution consisting of medium voltage (12kV) distribution system. • Medium voltage electrical duct bank through an active street. • Addition / modification to a medium voltage electrical distribution system while the system remains fully operational. • Other facilities that contain a high degree of technical/aesthetic complexity and Such projects should have possessed the following construction challenges: • Urban site work with limited construction and staging areas. • Site work requiring proactive and innovative solutions due to noise, dust, vehicular and pedestrian traffic while the surrounding buildings are occupied and fully functional with ongoing research. • Upgrade of existing medium voltage electrical distribution system requiring proactive and innovative solutions due to unknown and/or unforeseen site conditions. • Project complexity requiring tracking of multiple functions and phases. • Project complexity requiring tracking of and coordinating with multiple projects, complex phasing plan development and execution of construction phases and critical path construction scheduling to complete on time. Such projects should include these specific components: • Medium voltage (12kV) duct banks, cables, splices and terminations. • Medium voltage electrical equipment such as 15kV SF6 Switch and transformer. • Splicing of medium voltage cables within the confine of electrical manhole. • Phased construction of underground electrical ductbanks adjacent to existing underground utilities with adjacent facilities in full operation. • Project complexity requiring multiple switching and shutdown of medium voltage system while maintaining full operation of adjacent facilities. • Acceptance testing of equipment. • Short circuit, coordination and arc flash studies. The Contractor shall have demonstrated an average annual business revenue of at least $ 7,000,000 over the last five (5) consecutive years. The Contractor must have demonstrated experience on a minimum of three (3) and maximum of five (5) comparable projects with the Contractor providing services as Electrical Prime Contractor within the last ten (10) years. These Projects will be bid separately. A prequalification meeting will not be conducted for these projects.
