Seattle City Light (SCL) is seeking assistance with the routine surveys of salmonid populations inhabiting the mainstem and tributaries to the Pend Oreille River in North-Eastern Washington. Over the past three years (2011 - 2013), SCL has undertaken extensive sampling and survey of populations of native Salmonids inhabiting the tributaries of the Pend Oreille River in the Boundary Project Area, NE Washington State. Over this period 1806 tissue samples have been collected and 2214 PIT tags have been implanted in fishes within the area of interest. This project will continue the work to date by undertaking a number of tasks broadly falling into four sub-activities: (a) A comprehensive recapture effort across all sites with known PIT-tags-at-large; (b) A representative set of density estimates for all tributary habitats through multi-pass depletion methodology; (c) Opportunistic and specific collection of tissue samples; and, (d) determination of "end of brook trout" distribution at specific locations. This information will contribute to the detailed characterization of population structure, natal origin and patterns of distribution and abundance of co-occurring stocks in the project area, helping to determine if any significant or unique populations and biogeographic locations exist requiring further study and/or special management.
