The Laboratory of Animal Care Unit that is part of the Intramural Research Program of the
NIH/NIAMS supports all NIAMS Investigators whose research involves animals on the NIH
campus in Bethesda, MD. NIAMSââ¬â¢ Intramural Research Program relies on mouse models and
mouse model development for their research. As part of their mission to support animals,
NIAMS cryopreserves lines of the genetic material of mice that remain important models for
future work done at NIAMS. The cryopreservation of these lines allows for reduction of animals
required for research and future collaboration.
NIAMS is requesting services for the cryopreservation and continued storage of mouse embryos
and sperm to continue to preserve strains that have been cryopreserved. When the material is
frozen, it must be maintained in order to keep the integrity of the sample and to preserve the
assurance that the material remains viable.
