The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Acquisition Management Division, on behalf of the Advanced Chemical Science Laboratory (Analytical Chemistry Division), intends to negotiate on a sole source basis under authority of FAR 13.106(b)(1), with Edax, Inc. of Mahwah, NJ for a new replacement SiLi Detector Component.
Sole source determination is based on the following: Edax, Inc. is the only known manufacturer of this SiLi Detector Component that will be 100% plug-in compatible (in terms of both hardware and software) with NISTâs existing Edax Eagle III Spectrometer currently in use.
NIST requires an immediate replacement SiLi Detector Component for a Edax Eagle III Spectromete. The SiLi Detector Component must meet all requirements of the original manufacturerâs design and performance specifications for the Eagle III Spectrometer. Specifications call for:
Type: Si(Li)
Active area: 30 mm2
Detector window: 12 µm thick Beryllium
Energy resolution: 155 eV for Mn Kα
Liquid nitrogen dewer volume: 5 L
Delivery shall be FOB Destination, Gaithersburg, MD, and is required for immediate delivery.
The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 334516, and the size standard is 500 employees.
No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations; however, the Government will consider responses received by December 24, 2009 12:00 PM EST.
A determination by the Government not to compete the proposed acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
