DESIGN OF REHABILITATION IMPROVEMENTS FOR THE MAIN AND NORTH FLOODWAYS AND ARROYO COLORADO PROTECTIVE LEVEE SYSTEMS LOCATED WITHIN THE LOWER RIO GRANDE FLOOR CONTROL PROJECT.
The United States Section of the International Boundary and Water Commission (USIBWC) has recently conducted hydraulic and geotechnical studies to assess the ability of the United States levees of the Lower Rio Grande Flood Control Project (LRGFCP) to safely contain flood flows in the Rio Grande. The USIBWC has determined that certain reaches of the levees require rehabilitation improvements for safe containment of the LRGFCP design flood flows. The proposed levee rehabilitation improvements will consis of 1) raising the top-of-levee elevation, 2) conducting geotechnical and testing to determine the type and extent of any required remediation improvements due to slope stability, seepage, levee settlement, erosion, and any other geotechnical issues that may cause levee failure during a 100 year flood event; and 3) assessing all the structures within the levee reaches within the SOW and providing recommendation on the required rehabilitation for each structure.
