Description:

Opportunity for Joint Research - Light Water Reactor Sustainability Program: Reactor Coolant Pump Development Program

Introduction/Objective:

Battelle Energy Alliance (BEA) is the Management and Operating Contractor for the Idaho National Laboratory (INL).  BEA is notifying and requesting expressions of interest from qualified prospective candidates that are interested in performing joint research with BEA in reactor coolant pump development.  BEA anticipates that joint research may provide improved economic performance of reactor coolant pumps.

BEA is seeking industry collaboration and involvement to develop improved reactor coolant pump designs.  BEA is specifically interested in U.S. companies that currently design and manufacture reactor coolant pumps and have identified design and manufacturing opportunities. Qualified collaborator(s) will be expected to provide in-kind contributions to the research and development efforts.   INL's total current project funding for its work is not yet determined, but expected to be approximately $500,000 in the initial phase.

Qualified candidates are U.S. companies that currently manufacture reactor coolant pumps that are currently being utilized in the nuclear industry.  Qualified companies that have recently expressed an interest within the past few months will also be considered.

Candidates must be willing to negotiate and enter into a Department of Energy (DOE) approved Cooperative Research and Development Agreement.  BEA will select qualified responders based on the company's capability and expertise in the areas of interest, ability to commercialize anticipated R&D outcomes, and the anticipated advancement to INL mission accomplishment (see www.inl.gov).  Multiple joint research opportunities may be accepted.
