The National Library of Medicine (NLM) intends to procure on a sole source basis with Jonathan A. Hill, Bookseller 325 West End Avenue, Suite 10B New York City, New York, 10023-8143, under FAR 6-302-1. To fulfill its mission to acquire, preserve and organize the world's biomedical literature, NLM wishes to add Hans von Feldtbuch der Wundartzney, [Augsburg: H. Steiner, ca. 1528-30]. This book is an extremely rare edition of the second earliest illustrated book on surgery. Gresdorff, a military surgeon for some forty years, was experienced in the care and treatment of battlefield injuries, to its collection.

This procurement is being conducted under Simplified Acquisitions Procedures in accordance with FAR Part 13. The North American Industry Classification System Code (NAICS) is 511130 is for Book Publishers and the business size standard is 500 employees.

This notice of intent is not request for competitive quotations. However, if any interested party believes they can meet the above requirement, they may submit a quotation. All responses received no later than the closing date of this announcement will be considered by the government. A determination by the government not to compete this proposed acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government. Information will be considered HMD has not found any copies of this book listed in the United States.

This is not a solicitation for competitive quotations, nor is a RFQ available. However, if any other interested party believes that it can meet the requirement it may submit a statement of capabilities. The capability statement and any other information furnished must be in writing, and must contain material in sufficient detail for NLM to determine if the party can meet all of the foregoing requirements.
