The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to negotiate, on a sole source basis, under authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) (1), with
Eckert & Zeigler Isotope Products, Inc., 24937 Avetibbitts , Valencia, CA for the acquisition of radioactive material, needed by the Physical Measurement Laboratory (PML) at NIST, Gaithersburg, Maryland.
Sole Source determination is based on NIST's need to acquire the sources to test radiation detectors mounted on small vessels. Testing is being carried out by DHS/DNDO in collaboration with NIST. An initial small vessel test campaign took place in 2010; the test effort is a continuation of this initial work. NIST previously purchased several sources from Eckert & Ziegler as part of this on- going testing program, for traceability and reproducibility reasons. NIST has these specific types of sources from the same manufacturer.
*****The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 325180, and the size standard is 1000.

******A determination by the Government whether to compete the proposed acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.

*****No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for quotations. However, responses received by June 25, 2013 will be considered by the Government.
