The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service - Region 7 (Alaska) intends to award a sole source procurement to Michigan State University to provide a report the meets the following objectives: 1) Quantify moose utilization of preferred browse species in relation to their availability in high and low-density moose regions of the Selawik National Wildlife Refuge; 2) Quantify vegetation characteristics of dominant vegetation types associated with high and low density moose regions; 3) Develop succession models for the preferred habitat types in the high-density moose regions that allow managers to detect when moose numbers are impairing the successful trajectories beyond their historical range variability; and 4) Quanitfy if moose browsing is impacting the nutritional qualities of key browse species.
