The US Forest Service, Fremont-Winema National Forests, intends to issue a single source contract for the purchase of locally adapted grass seed for use in conjunction with certain rehabilitation efforts (controlling erosion, reducing the spread of noxious weeds) with Benson Farms, Inc.  Grass seed is to be delivered to the Region 6 Seed Extractory in Bend, OR, by September 15, 2010.  The type and amounts of grass seed are as follows:
1.  192 lbs. of bottlebrush squirreltail (Elymus Elymoides)
FS Seed Lot # (combined) ELEL5-20-701-03100-50-02
                                                  ELEL5-02-721-13-100-58-Lake of the Woods-07
2.  500 lbs. of bottlebrush squirreltail (Elymus Elymoides)
       FS Seed Lot #ELEL5-02-702-12-100-47-Cowboy-07
3.  500 lbs. of bottlebrush squirreltail (Elymus Elymoides)
       FS Seed Lot # ELEL5-02-703-100-5055-Paradise-04

The Washington Office has directed that locally adapted native plant species shall be utilized when that material is available.  Benson Farms, Inc., competed with other vendors for award for this seed lot under contract no. AG-04R3-C-06-0025.  Benson Farms, Inc., was awarded a task order for the grow out of this locally adapted native plant species of Bottlebrush Squirreltail.  The Government provided the seed, which was harvested from site-specific areas of the Fremont-Winema National Forests.  The Contractor was very successful at producing the bottlebrush squirreltail seed, and produced more seed than required, so now has excess seed for sale which meets the Government's requirements.

The solicitation number assigned to this effort is AG-04P5-S-11-0004 and the contract resulting from the solicitaiton will be issued on or about fifteen (15) days after release of this notice.  An award date is anticipated by March 8, 2011.  This notice of intent is NOT a request for competitive proposals, however, all responsible sources may submit a proposal which will be considered by the agency.  The NAICS code is 111998.
