This segment is part of the six-week orientation course for Foreign Service Officers (FSO). Since FSOs must be able to communicate clearly and effectively, this course includes a Public Speaking element to develop speaking skills and techniques essential for effective communication in a variety of Foreign Service situations. The course will be offered four (4) times in FY-2016. Each class has between 40 and 100 students. Each class will be divided into smaller groups of approximately equal size for practical training, generally consisting of 8-12 students per small group. Each workshop will include one plenary presentation between 2.5 and 4 hours long for the entire class, and up to eight small group sessions for practical training, with each lasting four hours. The number of courses offered during the year, the presentation dates, and the number of small group sessions are subject to change or cancellation, with notification of such changes made as early as possible.
