1.0 Overall Objectives:
The overall objective of this purchase is to replace the South bend 1307 tool room lathe purchased in 1973 which is worn out to the point that accuracy is no longer possible. The aforementioned lathe is currently not in service due to the unavailability of replacement parts. The new lathe must be a Hardinge HLV® Super - Precision Tool room Lathe or its equivalent.

3.0 Engineering objectives:
a. Purchase, and ensure delivery, installation and support for a new tool room replacement lathe.
4.0 Program Objectives:
a. To be capable of producing several part types that require small lathe accuracy including parts for Numismatic Branch.
b. Day to day maintenance machining of small accurate parts for vault doors, scales, coin counters, and other equipment.
c. Allow Machinists and Toolmakers to work more efficiently by increasing the speed and accuracy of the work they perform due to higher spindle speeds.
