The United States Department of Naval Medical Research Center (NMRC) intends to make a sole source award to Invitrogen, Grand Island, NY. for Platinum TAQ Polymerase (5000 U) produced by invitrogen is a component of reagents being produced by NMRC/BDRD. These reagents are employed by a variety of Navy, Department of Defense and other US Government agencies for the detection and identification of biological warfare agents. The TAQ Platinum produced by Invitrogen is one of those components. Switching to another polymerase from another vendor would invalidate all previous optimization and evaluation efforts. Reagents produced with another vendor's
polymerase without a re-optimization and evaluation would result in reduced performance of the regents
