The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Strokes (NINDS) would like to purchase the Pinano XY piezo stage and XY Microscope stage with self-locking, PILine Ultrasonic Motors and 0.5 um linear encoders, with the proper USB controller, Joystick, and Slide holder accessories are necessary in order to enable NINDS to do high resolution imaging of molecular motors and to understand the mechanisms of cytoskeletal regulators and the effects of post translational modification on motor protein trafficking. The low voltage multilayer PICMA piezo-electric ceramics are superior to conventional multilayer actuators and show a greater repeatability and longer lifetime in both static and dynamic operation. This stage will allow NINDS to localize single molecular motors with a very high accuracy while minimizing stage drift.
