Subject:  Installation of PV inverter and electric vehicle DC Quick Charger

Power conversion hardware is an important component in our electrical grid.  Inverters and rectifiers have typically required different circuit topologies and thus different hardware.  Ideal Power Converters have introduced a new circuit topology that enables a single hardware configuration to perform both as a photovoltaic inverter and as a rectifier for electric vehicle DC charging.

The Naval Facilities Engineering Expeditionary Warfare Center (NAVFAC EXWC) is seeking an engineering company with expertise and experience in software controls and power systems integration.  The contractor should have experience building level 3 DC quick chargers based on the ASE J1772 and CHADeMo standards.  The contractor shall develop an electric vehicle supply equipment and provide installation services for both the 30kW EV charger as well as a 30kW PV inverter.

The 30kW PV inverter install involves installation of an Ideal Power Converter PV inverter to replace 6 SMA Sunnyboy units currently hooked up to 30kW of PV modules.   The IPC PV inverter outputs to 480VAC 3 phase whereas the SMA Sunnyboy units output to 240VAC single phase.    A transformer will be needed for the interface between the IPC inverter and grid connection.  The IPC PV inverter weighs only 90lbs and will be wall mounted to a concrete wall indoors.

The same hardware configured IPC DC charger will be installed in a second building outdoors.  The contractor shall develop a EV charger interface between the IPC DC charger and the Electric vehicle.  The interface will manage the power output and be able to provide DC quick charging using either CHADeMo or ASE J1772 combo plugs.  The EV charging system will consist of the IPC DC charger attached directly to a 480VAC input and output controlled with a kiosk type EV interface with the appropriate DC quick charging plugs.

The contractor shall also provide installation services for the new DC quick charging EV supply equipment.  A trench for electrical wiring from the IPC power converter to the EV charging kiosk will need to be dug. The estimated length of run is 100ft.   Both IPC inverter and DC charger hardware will be provided.
