Oversize Overweight (OSOW) Permitting System Oversize Overweight (OSOW) permits authorize vehicles to operate at higher than the statutorily allowed sizes and weights. WisDOT issues between 65,000-70,000 OSOW permits annually. The majority of those permits are self-issued by the OSOW permitting system. There are a range of permit types including single and multiple trip, and a variety of exceptions and limitations based on commodity and routes traversed. Before a permit is issued, the OSOW permitting system analyzes a variety of criteria that includes vehicle configuration, load dimension and weight, routes, highway construction, etc. The contract term for this waiver is August 21, 2021 - June 30, 2022.
