First published Friday, March 3, 2017 The University awarded a contract for Orthopedic Spine System to Amendia, Marietta, GA, for an estimated $750,000. Musculoskeletal diseases affect more than one out of every two persons in the United States age 18 and over, and nearly three out of four age 65 and over. The orthopedic spine system from Amendia, is designed to improve the surgical outcomes and the lives of patients with spinal disorders by utilizing both biologics and instrumentation. The system is comprised of four components: interbody plates, rods, screws, and peek end caps. The requested items have many proprietary technological features that are not available from competing manufacturers. Please refer to Section VI question 4 on sole source justification form for proprietary features provided by Amendia Inc. product line. The University has determined that this purchase is only economically available from this source because the item or service is copyrighted or patented and is not available except from the holder of the copyright or patent.
