This synopsis is hereby issued in accordance with FAR Part 5.203 in response to the mandatory requirement for a 15 day notification. The purpose of this synopsis is to announce the Food and Drug Administration's intent to negotiate a Firm Fixed Price sole source contract with AFFYMETRIX, INC., located at 3420 Central Expressway, Santa Clara, CA 95051-0704 for microarrays. The Government intends to negotiate solely with AFFYMETRIX, INC. as they are the only manufacturer of the custom designed FDA_ECID array. These arrays are currently in use for pathogen identification and whole genome characterization work and are exclusively available on the Affymetrix platform. Due to previous work done using these unique arrays and Affymetrix platform, the same item is required as other sources would not allow for like comparative analysis on new and previous samples. The Food and Drug Administration intends to purchase the following quantity:

One hundred and thirty six (136), Strip, Affymetrix, FDA-DCID ARRAY(s).
