NOTICE OF INTENT LASS ISOTOPE AND TRACE ELEMENT ANALYSIS This is a notice of intent to solicit from a single source. The US Geological Survey (USGS) intends to award a Purchase Order to the University of California - Santa Barbara (UCSB) for laboratory use and instruction of in-situ laser-ablation split-stream (LASS) radiogenic isotope and trace element analysis equipment as described in the attached Statement of Work. This work involves making geologic maps of the area(s) being investigated and reconstructing the tectonic, sedimentation, and metallogenic history. Uranium-lead (U-Pb) geochronology, or age determination, is one of the most important and useful laboratory techniques used in this line of research and this technique was developed at UCSB. To our knowledge, no other commercial labs offer split-stream analyses as a routine instrument configuration. The USGS also intends to keep continuity of data and to obtain publishable data that is comparable to previously collected data. Award will be made in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 13,106-1(b)(1)(i) only one source reasonably available. UCSB is, to the USGS' knowledge, the only source who can accommodate this requirement. The purpose of this notice is to satisfy the requirements of FAR Subpart 5.2. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotes. However, all responsible parties may submit a quotation which shall be considered by the agency. No solicitation will be issued. A determination not to compete this action based upon responses received is in the sole discretion of the Government. The NAICS code for this action is 541380, Testing Laboratories, and the Product/Service Code is B517, Special Studies/Analysis - Geological.
