First published Tuesday, April 28, 2015 The University awarded a contract for New Edition Textbooks to LAD Custom Publishing, Buford, GA, for an estimated $600,000. This purchase is only economically available from a single source, LAD Custom Publishing, because the new edition textbooks are published only by LAD Custom Publishing and available in the quantities needed for resale to the University's students. Choice of specific, individual textbooks is an academic matter that is determined by the academic unit in consultation with the individual faculty members. The University has no ability to make substitutions, or offer products of similar or equal value from competing vendors. Textbooks contain copyrighted materials which cannot be substitued between publishers. There are no other distributors that can furnish the University with the necessary quantity of the new edition of textbooks with guaranteed availability. Since these books are required for specific classes, the quantity ordered must have guaranteed availability prior to the start of classes. LAD Custom Publishing is the only vendor that can meet these requirements. The University has determined that this purchase is only economically available from this source because the item is to be procured for commercial resale.
