The National Institutes of Health (NIH), Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) has a requirement to procure services to process DNA using a new high-density gene microarray to define the genotype of individual mice at many loci throughout the genome. The Mouse Universal Genotyping Array (MUGA) provides 7,851 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers (built on the Illumina Infinium platform). The MUGA design criteria makes it optimal for detecting heterozygous regions and discriminating between haplotypes in homozygous regions. The array's allele frequencies and haplotypes were derived from eight laboratory mouse strains (A/J, C57BL/6J, 129S1/SvImJ, NOD/LtJ, NZO/HlLtJ, CAST/EiJ, PWK/PhJ, and WSB/EiJ).
