This is a Sole Source with Motorola IAW FAR 6.302-1. Motorola is the only source capable of fulfilling the government's requirement to be internally inspected, resealed and tested to insure that is physically meets the rigid requirements to operate safely in a hazardous environment where enough flammable gases or vapors exist, or may be present in the air to produce explosive or ignitable mixtures. Technicians need to be Motorola certified and trained to work on XTS 5000 radios. Motorola is the only company that has the facility accreditation/technical certification to recertify radios to intrinsically safe standards.
