Pairs of Little Tern form colonies in an open-spaced aged asphalt area at Naha Military Port (NMP). The nesting ground is highly susceptible to human disturbance and inclement weather, such as heavy rain and typhoons. Jungle Crows, cats, dogs, rats and other animals have been observed to prey on the Little Tern. The JEGS requires installations to take reasonable steps to protect and enhance the known endangered, threatened and host nation protected species and their habitats.
