Mesa Stewardship: The Smokey Bear Ranger District anticipates awarding an Integrated Resource Service Contract under Stewardship authority. The purpose is to treat vegetation to improve ecosystem composition, and structure of the landscape by providing tree species and stocking levels similar to historic levels to better resist insects, disease, and wildfire. Work includes whole tree yarding to a landing all stems designated for harvest 6" to 18" DBH, and chipping, masticating, removing or burning all slash created from harvest. The sale area is 156 acres and has 1474 CCF, 707 MBF of merchantable timber. This area may require minor recurrent road maintenance. There will be mitigation measures put in place to minimize the potential impacts to wildlife, water, recreation and other resources.
