Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) is seeking bids for MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry instruments that are particularly valuable for research applications in a variety of disciplines including biology, ecology, medical laboratory science, environmental health sciences, and chemistry. Such systems have automated a number of processes to enable to rapid ability to get scientifically defensible microbial identification, protein sequence identification, among thousands of other possible biochemical assays. Specifically, we are looking for an instrument that has the ability to rapidly connect instrument results to a microbial identification library or libraries inclusive of bacteria and fungi. Additionally, we are looking for multiple uses which beyond microbial ID also can be used for studying antibiotic susceptibility, peptides and proteins. Microbial identification and antimicrobial susceptibility analyses would be the most preferred uses. The instrument funding is being sought from the National Science Foundation Major Research Instrumentation Program for enhancing the research infrastructure for the university at-large, and this shared equipment will foster greater dissemination of research in higher impact publications, support more competitive grant applications for bringing more research dollars into the institution, and for training students with research ambitions with cutting edge technology used by leading research universities and corporations. Additionally, some educational benefits may be obtained by demonstrations of the instrumentation at work as these instruments are commonly used in major hospital systems for timely and accurate microbial ID. Other teaching applications are possible; however, the ultimate purpose is that this instrument would be a critical part of elevating our research infrastructure at the university in multiple scientific disciplines in at least two colleges (STEM and Health Sciences). The purchase would only occur if the National Science Foundation Major Research Instrumentation award is received by the University. To clarify, an award of contract or issuance of a purchase order is contingent upon EKU receiving the grant funding. Bid pricing should remain valid and locked-in for at least one (1) year after bid due date. The earliest that EKU could possibly purchase item(s) would be September 1, 2023, however, that date is not a guarantee. If deemed in the best interest of the University, the University reserves the right to award the bid in part or in whole and to award multiple vendors. Any awarded contract will be non-exclusive. Questions: Any questions are due by 11/15/22 at 3:00PM. Please use the Q&A Board within this solicitation event to post any questions. Product Information: 1. MALDI Biotyper sirius GP or RUO System or University approved equivalent 2. VITEK 2 - Mass spectrometry microbial identification system or University approved equivalent 3. Annual Maintenance Service Agreement(s) *Please input bid pricing under the "Items" section, and upload full product specs within the "Supplier Attachments" section of this solicitation event. Any delivery or shipping fees should be included in the price of the equipment. The University will not pay separate shipping fees. *EKU is open to alternatives/equivalents, however, any alternative/equivalent must be approved by the University and that approval is at the discretion of the University. If Bidder would like to submit a bid for an alternative(s), please enter “$0.00” under the product line items that we have listed and then add your own items. You will need to upload full details and specs under the “Supplier Attachments” section of the bid.
