Operational Contracting, US Air Force Academy intends to award a sole source purchase order utilizing simplified acquisition procedures to Varian Inc for maintenance and repair of the Department of Chemistry's nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer.

The MercuryPlus Spectrometers operated by the Department of Chemistry are manufactured by Varian Instruments. The instruments are exclusively controled by Varian which designed and patented the proprietary software. The manufacturer does not authorize or license third party maintenance and parts support.

Supplies and/or services are available from only one responsible source. No other type of supply or service will satisfy agency requirements. Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to meet this requirement. This Notice of Intent is NOT a request for competitive proposals. If no response is received by September 19, 2010 to the effect that comparable supplies and/or services are available that would be more advantageous to the Government than obtaining these supplies and or services though a sole source procurement with Varian Inc a sole source award will be made.
