The Bureau of Indian Affairs, Ute Mountain Agency located in Towaoc, Colorado has a contractual requirement for Chief Magistrate Services.The Chief Magistrate will: (1) Review and screen all criminal adult/juvenile complaints and analyze criminal investigations for prosecution merit and prepare for and prosecute criminal and juvenile case, including wildlife and traffic violations over which the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Court has jurisdiction; (2) Representing Officer (Attorney-at-Law) for the Ute Mountain Ute Tribal Social Services Department in abuse, neglect, delinquency and involuntary commitment cases in the CFR Court; (3) Assist the United States Attornery and the Montezuma County District Attorneys in all criminal matters; (4) The Chief Magistrate is required to attend and participate in training seminars, workshops and/or conferences that directly relate to the Chief Magistrate Services.(5) Prosecute all criminal cases filed with the CFR court; (6) Conduct legal research to prepare for case hearings; (7) Work a 38 hour work week; (8) Coordinate work schedule with the CFR Court Administrator, Court Clerks, Prosecutor and CFR Court; (9) Work independently performing Chief Magistrate duties with limited supervision, including, maintaining a case load of active cases to be adjudicated in the CFR Court or the Southwest Intertribal Court of Appeals; (10) Be responsible for fulfilling the requirements of the contract. Location: The CFR Court services the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe in Towaoc, Co. and White Mesa, Ut.. The CFR Court is located in the community of Towaoc, Colorado on the Ute Mountain Ute Reservation located in southwest Colorado and northwest New Mexico. Towaoc is and located 12 miles south of Cortez, Colorado, on Highway 491. The CFR Court location address is 440 Sunset Blvd., Towaoc, Colorado 81334. No Residential or rental housing is available in Towaoc. The nearest available housing is in Cortez, Colorado or Blanding, Utah. Relocation Costs are not provided or reimbused by the Government.Population: The current population of Towaoc and White Mesa is estimated to be 1,632 people of whom 1,343 reside in Towaoc, Colorado and 289 in White Mesa, Utah. The approximate percentage of the estimated population is: 87% tribal Members, 11 % Native American non-tribal members, and 2% non-Native Americans.
