This is a notice of intent, not a request for a proposal. A solicitation document will not be issued and proposals will not be requested. National Institute on Drug Abuse, Office of Acquisitions- Neurosciences, Station Support/Simplified Acquisition, on behalf of the National Institute on Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), intends to award on a sole source basis to BD Biosciences, 2350 Qume Drive, San Jose, CA, 95131-1807, for acquisition of a LSR digital flow cytometer. The cytometer is to be used to analyze and phenotype immunce cell populations that migrate into the central nervous system as well as peripheral tissues. The BD Biosciences is the only known cytometer which permits simultaneous analysis of up to 18 colors. This is an important feature because very few cells can be extracted from the central nervous system. With one central nervous system sample, the BD Biosciences cytometer has the capacity to analyze up to 18 colors. The acquisition is being conducted under simplified acquisition using FAR 12 procedures and is exempt from the requirements of FAR Part 6, Competition Requirement. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. Interested parties may identify their interest and capabilities in response to this synopsis. The determination by the Government not to compete the proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely with the discretion of the Government.
